the shadow man

I felt you,
sleeping near to me
though you were gone,
once I awoke
and took with you a broken vow
your faithfulness
just dust and smoke.

The sheets were warm,
they smelled of you
some perfumed shit
that made me choke
on promises that once I knew
I thought I heard
but you misspoke.

The morning calls
I rise
alone
my breakfast gin,
and rum,
with Coke
to start my day
in silhouette
the shadow man
you left for broke.

    1. Thank you very much. We are left changed, but not broken. I suppose the meaning of life is to learn to appreciate the changes, irrespective of the cause.
